Our Lady Mount Carmel N.S. has a long history of running the Green schools programme. The Green Flag process involves a seven step programme incuding forming a committee, reviewing current pratices and writing slogans. There are eight themes currently being explored Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Travel, Bio-diversity, Global-Citizenship- Litter and Waste, Global Citizenship- Energy and Global Citizenship-Marine Environment.

We are currently working on our sixth Green school Flag under the theme Global Citizenship-Litter and Waste. This theme focuses on raising awareness of how to reduce litter and waste in our school population and wider community to benefit the world.

The children who serve on the Green school committee attend regular meetings with their co-ordinating teacher which over the years has included; Mrs Farrell, Ms Egan and Ms Davis.

The children are given various aspects of school life to monitor and report back on.

The Green School Programme sets out to teach that we are all responsible for looking after Mother Earth!
